Railway Tavern 2 - 1 Piddlehinton

In the first game after the xmas break due to bad weather Piddle were up against the team they had previously beaten 6-3 at home.

Piddle started the brighter of the two teams and carved out several guilt edged opportunites but were let down by some poor finishing. They made the breakthrough mid way through the first half when a slide rule pass from crane released Jeanes, who broke through the home defence and slotted home cooly.

Railway Tavern were back on level terms almost immediately when a cross from the left found its way across the box, and the tavern forwards powerful shot deflected off of Churchills hand and into the net. HT 1-1.

The second half followed the same pattern with Piddle pushing forward and putting the home team under pressure, however the Tavern always looked dangerous in the counter. It was one of these counter attacks where Railway Tavern took the lead. Piddle were left short at the back pushing on for a corner and a neat interchange of passes led to a Tavern played tapping in at the far post. Piddle pushed on but couldnt seem to get any shots on the target.

Railway Tavern should have had a third when a collision between Mike Bennett, making his season debut after a nasty ankle injury, and a Tavern forward resulted in the ball ending up in the net. The referee adjudged a foul on the Piddle shot stopper much to the disgrace of the home team. Piddle failed to take advantage seemingly running out of ideas in the final third. A dissapointing result in a game that should have produced three points for the mighty Piddle.
