Piddlehinton 0 - 7 Upwey & Broadwey
Piddlehinton faced an uphill struggle from the start as they met the runaway league leaders Upwey & Broadwey. Fielding a near full strength side Piddle started well and Ben Jeanes was unlucky with a snap shot which flashed across the face of goal narrowly missing the target. However, it didn't take long for Upwey to stamp their authority on the game, and took the lead when their tall centre forward Crawford finshed cooly after a slick move. Everthing Upwey did seemed to centre around the powerful frontman and he got his reward with another couple of well taken goals, the third a curling shot into the top corner that left Bennett no chance.
Bennett then made an uncharacteristic mistake.... when he misjudged a through ball which failed to go out of play and an Upwey played nicked in front of him to slide it into the open net. Crawford then scored his fourth and fifth of the game, one with a cheeky back heel on the line.
HT 0-6
After a frank and meaningful discussion at half time Piddle manager Hansford decided to switch to a 5-4-1 formation for the second half with Minhinnick playing as sweeper behind Gerlach & Petford, with Jeanes switching to midfield. This worked well as Piddle limited Upwey to only one further goal, and may have even nicked a goal themselves from the non-stop running of Smith. Piddle will need to reproduce the desire from their second half performance if they are to get anything from next weeks trip to Witchampton, however it must be said that Upwey are easily one of the best teams seen at Piddle stadium for many a season and should easily walk away with the div 3 league title.
