Match Report

Piddlehinton 3 - 5 AC Matravers
Piddle went into this game knowing a point would secure Div 3 status for their 60th year in Dorset League football. However, despite losing the game, other results combined to make sure safety was assured.
The home team started the game terribly as usual conceding an early goal. They were back in the game when the awful ref awarding a spot kick for handball. Surely more a case of ball to hand though which was to become a recurring theme to the match. Crane dispatched the penalty with minimum fuss for his first goal of the season. Almost instantly the ref awarded another Pen at the other end for handball again. Bennett stood no chance with the resulting kick as Matravers retook the lead. HT 2-1.
Piddle were being outplayed by a decent Matravers team who extended their lead with yet another penalty kick for handball. This was starting to get ridiculous.... But wait, Piddle clawed their way back to a single goal with.... you guessed it, another penalty for handball again driven home by Crane. Surely the ref had been down to ladbrokes prior to the game and placed a significant wager on 4 spot kicks in the game!
Matravers wrapped things up with a header from a corner which cannoned in off of Dovell, possibly an own goal but who really cares at this point. Oh and Matravers must have scored a 5th at some point as the scoreline indeed suggests. All in all an instantly forgetable game for Kip Hansfords Yellow Army.
Ooops forget to mention Dovell scored a consolation for Piddle also, probably a scuffed shot knowing him...
