Piddlehinton 2 - 3 FC Windowman

On a baking hot day Piddle lined up against newly promoted FC Windowman at Thomas Hardye. The home team made one enforced change from the 5-4 defeat at Matravers, with Dovell replacing the absent Mcghee and new signing Paul Henderson making his debut in centre midfield.

Windowman had recorded 6-0 and 5-1 victories in their opening two games of the league campaign and they started very strongly dominating possesion. Piddle were finding it hard to get into the game and the heat was taking its toll. The away team took the lead when a long ball over the top found Phil Lee on the right wing and he took the ball into the box before slotting past Bennett. Soon after they doubled their lead when some sloppy defending from a corner allowed a man to sneak in at the near post and prod home.

The referee was giving what was easily the worst performance in football history and dishing out cards like there was no tomorrow. Several imaginary fouls were given while several actual fouls were completely missed. The only positive was at least he was being equally as useless to both sides!

Just before half time Windowman made it 3-0 in a virtual copy of their first goal. A ball over the top on the right wing allowed Lee time to compose himself and he lobbed calmly over the advancing Bennett.

Some harsh words were said by the Piddle management at half time and the home side came out determined to make a game of it. Creating many more chances than the first half Piddle took the game to Windowman and were soon rewarded when Hansford prodded home from inside the box. The ball seemed to roll agonisingly towards the goal for what seemed an eternity but it eventually made it for the left wingers second goal of the campaign. Piddle smelt blood and were looking strong forcing the Windowman keeper into several good stops, the away team continued to look dangerous on the counter and wasted several good chances.

The incompetent referee then failed to give what was the most concrete penalty ever when Sturmey handled in the box. He then had the cheek to book one of the windowman forwards for appealing, branding it dissent! Lets just hope he never graces the THLS ever again!

Time was running out for Piddle when new signing Henderson hit an unstoppable shot from 25 yards that curled into the top corner. There was only a couple of minutes left and the home team pressed for what would have been an excellent draw, but Windowman managed to hold out until the final whistle. FT 3-2.
