Drimpton 5 - 7 Piddlehinton

Piddle made the long trip west to Drimpton for a quarter final clash in the Dorset Junior County Cup. They were greeted by a pitch with a slope more suited to ski jumping than football. After the very late arrival of Kip Hansford (who had the kit) Piddle had only minutes to warm up prior to the game, with Mcghee only managing to tie his laces seconds before the whistle was blown. Jeanes won the toss for the first time in Piddlehinton history and elected to shoot downhill in the first half.

Piddle were caught out within 30 seconds when, with Drimptons first attack, a Mcghee clearance hit Minhinnick and fell kindly for a home forward to volley in. Piddle kicked off and were immediately back on level terms when a cross from the left wing was headed home by Prowse. Drimpton lost possesion from the resulting kick off leading to a chance for Bushnell who volleyed spectacularly past the keeper from an acute angle. 2-1 in just two and a half minutes!

Piddle continued to press and looked like scoring with every attack. Bushnell made it 3-1 when fed by Jeanes he burst past the Drimpton defence and slotted home. Prowse made it 4-1 with his second goal after 12 minutes when he met a Jeanes cross and side footed home. In an eventful day for Prowse he was then subbed off after 15 minutes when a stray Drimpton boot opened a nasty gash just above his eye, the first of two Piddle admissions to A & E!

Hargreaves then converted a cross from the left somehow lobbing the keeper from all of 4 yards, for his 6th goal of the season. Bushnell notched his third of the game when he closed down the Drimpton keeper, who's clearance cannoned off the Piddle front man and into the net.

Bushnell added a 7th for Piddle, again leaving the home defence for dead before clinically slotting in. That was the cue for a torrential downpour for the last 15 minutes of the half which made playing conditions very difficult. Piddle had several more chances in the first 45 but failed to convert any of them. Hargreaves coming closest when his shot from the left, with the keeper well off his line, clipped the cross bar on its way over. HT 7-1

Drimpton came out determined to put some respectability into the scoreline, and shooting downhill they soon found the back of the net. A drilled cross from the right cannoning off of Frampton and past Bennett for his first own goal of the season!

Drimpton added three more goals through a combination of poor defending and atrocious pitch conditions to leave the scoreline precariously balanced at 7-5 with 15 minutes to go.

It was then Sturmeys turn to join Prowse up at Dorchester A & E with a suspected broken hand after a Drimpton forward kindly trod on it! Piddle managed to hang on without conceding again and the final whistle was welcomed with massive relief from the away team, to book their place in the semi finals.
