Match Report

Donhead 1 - 3 Piddlehinton
Piddle made one of the longest trips of the season to play North dorset side Donhead. They suffered an early set back when 15 minutes into the journey it was discovered Co-Manager Jeanes had forgotton the kit! Despite this the team still managed to make it out with seconds to spare for the start of the match on a sloping pitch, and the wind blowing a hoolie.
With Piddle shooting downhill first and with the strong wind behind them they were camped in the Donhead half for most of the first period. They deservedly took the lead after a clinical left foot finish from Henderson from just inside the box.
The home team hit back almost immediately with a headed goal that went in off the underside of the crossbar. Piddle dominated the rest of the first half but could not make the breakthrough through a combination of poor finishing, and overhitting of passes due to the weather conditions.
Piddle knew they had to improve if they were to get anything out of the game and started playing a bit more football the second half. The weather conditions were meaning that most of the play was in the Piddle half, and a breakaway seemed their best chance of a goal.
The breakthrough came when Jeanes, after a strong run down the left, whipped the ball in and Bushnell rose like the proverbial salmon to plant a header into the corner of the net. This led to real pressure from the home team but they couldnt find a way past the Piddle defence and some quality savs from Bennett.
With time running out Bushnell made the three points safe with what is surely the goal of the season. Picking the ball up just inside the opposition half, Bushnell set out on a mazy run which left two bamboozled defenders on the deck, before rounding the keeper and slotting the ball home for his 32nd goal of the season.
Piddle held firm in the last few minutes for a hard fought victory which saw them retain third spot in the league which will hopefully see them promoted come the end of the season.
