Piddlehinton 2 - 2 Harbour View

Harbour View were the visitors to the THLS on a cold and windy afternoon, with Piddle knowing a win would guarantee them a third place finish in the league. With Minhinnick away catching various STDs on holiday in Magaluf, it was Mcghee and Ayles who lined up in the centre of defence

Piddle captain Jeanes lost the toss for a record 79th time in a row, and Harbour View decided to play with the wind in the first half. From the kick off both teams were trying to play a passing game which lead to a pleasent spectacle for the mass of Piddle home fans.

Harbour view took the lead after about 20 minutes with a wind assisted goal. A corner from the right was dangerously curled inwards and the wind carried it directly into the top corner leaving Bennett and Hansford on the post little chance. It was to get worse for Piddle when a move down the Harbour view left led to the nippy winger breaking through into the area and cooly side footing passed Bennett.

To their credit the home team didnt panic and carried on with their mostly short passing philosophy. It reaped its reward when Jeanes deftly played Bushnell through and the Piddle top scorer poked home from 10 yards out. Piddlehinton found themselves back on level terms when a flowing move down the left led to a Bushnell cross which Jeanes connected with and drove home. HT 2-2

The second half was as equal as the first with very few chances created. A couple of one on ones for Harbour view were placed wide when the striker should have done better. Piddles best chance in the second half fell to Dovell who drove just wide when well placed in the box. No goals in the second meant the points were shared, a fair reflection on a match played in good spirits.

Piddle were later to find out that their draw, coupled with Swanages defeat at Shaftesbury, meant they were guaranteed third place in the league no matter what their results of the final two league games against high flying Kingston Lacy. A solid league finish in Piddlehintons 60th Year which may yet see them promoted to Division 2.
