Piddlehinton 1 - 4 Kingston Lacy

Piddle finished off their league campaign with a home tie against Kingston Lacy, who had convincingly beaten them in the reverse fixture only 7 days earlier. With some glorious sunny weather, Piddle were looking to give a better account of themselves then they did in the last game, with hopefully the narrow THLS pitch playing to their advantage.

Straight from the kick off the home team looked more compact and were winning personal battles all over the pitch. Piddle were producing the clearer cut chances in the opening stages but it was the away side who took the lead when poor defending in the box allowed a Lacy forward to ghost in at the far post unchallenged to nod past Cocker. This didnt dampen the spirit in the Piddle team, and they were soon back on level terms when Hansford picked out Bushnell who rounded the keeper and slotted home for his 37th goal of the season, and Piddles 99th in all competitions - only one away from that elusive century! HT 1-1

Lacy made a couple of changes at half time as they knew anything less than a win would see their league aspirations fade away. The fresh legs seemed to do the job as they retook the lead, after a long ball over the top was poorly dealt with and the Lacy forward drilled the ball home. Piddle were struggling to make any impression in the second period, and Lacy soon added a more than fortunate third. A ball over the top led to a foot race between Petford and Linford Christies cousin which Petford was never going to win, the strikers shot bounced over Cocker and off the bar falling to the grateful Lacy forward for a simple tap in. Lacy added a fourth to give a slight undeserved gloss to the score line, and that was how it finished.

In Piddles 60th year this was one of the most impressive seasons in recent times, seeing them finish 3rd in the league and get to the Dorset Junior Cup semi final, scoring 99 and conceding 65 goals in all competitions. An average of 6.56 goals per game, Piddle always give the fans high quality entertainment win or lose! It just remains to be seen if 3rd place will be enough to see them promoted to Division 2.
