Piddlehinton 2 - 0 Donhead
Piddlehinton got back to winning ways with a deserved victory at home to Donhead United. Piddle made just one changed from last weeks line up with Mike Churchill replacing Ben Rose at left back, who was out with a drinking related injury. The home side bossed the opening exchanges, but were unable to create any clear cut chances. Full back Luke Notley who had impressed in recent weeks, went off injured early on with a recurrance of a knee injury and was replaced by Marc Cutler. Piddle lacked penetration up front and were limited to a couple of long range efforts which failed to test the Donhead keeper. Just as it seemed the scoreline would stay goaless at half time, Jeanes was fed down the left and his powerful run into the box ended in a clinical finish into the corner of the net. HT 1-0.
The second half continued in the same fashion, with Piddle slightly edging posession but not creating many clear cut chances. Piddlehinton's pressure was resulting in several corners for the home team, and three times Mark Ayles won headers in the box only to head over the bar on each occasion. Donhead created their only real clear cut chance of the game when the skillful number 10 jinked his way to the edge of the box, and his powerful shot cannoned back off the bar. It fell to a Donhead player in the box with the goal gaping but he seemed to take an age to control the ball and the Piddle defence stole the ball away.
Ben Jeanes had a chance to double Piddles lead when Smith centered after a powerful run down the right, but Jeanes could only blaze over the bar from 6 yards. Jeanes made amends for his miss when he scored his second of the game in almost identical fashion to his first. This effectively killed off the game as a contest, although Donhead did apply some late pressure but the Piddle defence stood firm with Mike Churchill having a particularly inspired game at left back.
